I obtained a M.Sc. degree in ‘Engineering for the Environment and the Territory’ at the University of Catania (Italy), in 2007. That year, my academic research activity started with the attendance of the PhD course in ‘Geotechnical Engineering’ at University of Catania addressing relevant environmental issues connected with the disposal of municipal solid waste through application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): I took the title in 2012. Since 2013, I have carried out research under several collaboration contracts and grants, mainly at the Universities of Catania, Foggia, Messina, and Turin (Italy). In 2017, I achieved the habilitation for associate professorship in “Commodity Science”, according to the Italian University system. In February 2020, I received my second PhD: this time it was in ‘Civil Infrastructures for the Territory’ at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of the Kore University of Enna (Italy), working in the field of energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings and building materials, again providing the application of LCA as one scientifically-based tool for research development. Since March 2022 I have been working as a tenure-track assistant professor in “Commodity science” at the Department of Economics, Management and Businesses of the University of Bari Aldo Moro (Italy). Overall, my research activities and interests are focussed upon the development of energy, environmental and economic assessments in the fields of: commodity science; industrial and environmental engineering; buildings; renewable energy; agriculture; and, food production and packaging. Within those themes, since 2013 I have authored and co-authored more than eighty publications in indexed international journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings, have co-edited books on circular economy and sustainability, and have taught university courses, and have given lots of lectures and seminars.
