Mario Romano - Top Italian Scientist in Clinical Sciences
Professor of Ophthalmology at Humanitas University and Director of Ophthalmology Department at Humanitas Bergamo. Director of Ophthalmology Residency Program Humanitas University, Milan. Scientific director of European school for advanced studies in ophthalmology (ESASO), Lugano CH. Eye surgeon with particular interest in vitreoretinal diseases. PhD in Pharmacology and Molecular Oncology. Master degree Healthcare Management. Principal Investigator in Retinal Disease Research. PI for several translational research projects, founded both by competitive governmental grants and by private companies, focused on retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, cell replacement, endo-tamponade, intraocular temperature, intraocular devices toxicity, phaco and vitrectomy system, degenerative ocular disease including age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He completed his training with: fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary (USA) 2005-2006 and a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital (UK) 2007-2008. The professor Romano was also awarded the title of Cavaliere Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. He also practices national and international endurance competitions (ironman, marathons and ultramarathons).
