Claudio Santi - Top Italian Scientist in Chemistry
Claudio Santi was born in Fabriano, Italy on July 16, 1967. After finishing his studies of Pharmaceutical Sciences with emphasis on Organic Chemistry at the Perugia University in 1992 he continued with his PhD in Chemical Sciences at the same institution under the guidance of Prof. Marcello Tiecco which he finished in 1996 with distinction. In these years 1996-2002 he was research assistant and moved then to the position of university assistant at the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the same University. This position was interrupted in 1998 for a postdoctoral stay as National Swiss Foundation Fellow with Thomas Wirth at The Institut für Organische Chemie, Basel University, Switzerland. In 2010 he was habilitated as associate professor and then promoted to the position of Associate University Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of Perugia in 2013. Since the same year he was also habilitated as Full Professor in Organic Chemistry (in the frame of the National Scientific Habilitation 2013 and 2016). Since 2013 he leads the group of Catalysis Synthesis and Organic Green Chemistry at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of Perugia and leads the International scientific Network Selenium Sulfur and Redox Catalysis (SeSRedCat). He was visiting professor at The Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa in 2013 (receiving in 2018 the title of Honorary Professor from the same institution) in 2014 at Universitade Federal de Pelotas UFPel (Brazil) and in 2020 at The University of Minas Gerais UFMG (Brazil). Since 2017 he is also Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
